Britcar Endurance Championship

Britcar is an endurance sports car racing and touring car racing series in the United Kingdom.

It was formed in 1997, as a result of a discussion in a Nürburgring bar between Willie Moore and James Tucker. Folklore has it that James Tucker and John Veness formed the organizing European Endurance & Racing Club (EERC) with a £10 note found on the ground. The foremost aim was the re-introduction of a 24-hour race in Britain.

At the end of the 2015 season, James sold the Britcar rights to Hedley Cowell Events Ltd. For the 2016 season, Claire Hedley re-launched Britcar Endurance as the Dunlop Endurance Championship and Dunlop Trophy Championship. For 2020 the series was invited to support the FIA World Endurance Championship races at Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone. The race format was 2 × 60 mins Endurance races and 2 × 50 mins Trophy races.

Britcar is excited to announce that it is poised to embark on an exciting new era in 2025 with a new format of the Britcar Endurance Championship.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 campaign, the organisers have announced that the British Endurance Championship (BEC) and Britcar Trophy Championship will amalgamate to form one single Championship for the 2025 season.

Going back to its original title – The Britcar Endurance Championship – the championship will include six competitor classes and feature of a mixture of one 90-minute or two 45-minute races across eight rounds – all of which will take place at major UK circuits.

Classes are set to mirror the old BEC and Trophy structures, with the top class featuring Ferrari Challenge and Porsche Cup cars. GT4 and cars of similar performance within the Trophy category – including the ever-competitive Clios – will round out the remaining classes.

Classes

The classes for the 2025 Britcar Endurance Championship are based around power to weight ratio and specific car homologation and are categorized as follows:

Class Challenge (red sunstrip)

Porsche 991 Cup cars, Ferrari 488 and 458 Challenge cars balanced using the BoP in Appendix C. Also in this class are cars not built to the above specifications but also not exceeding 450bhp per tonne based on power at the flywheel and a minimum running weight as measured in Parc Ferme after any official session (with reference to 5.4.6). Cars in this class must run on Goodyear Racing Slick and Wet tyres.

Class GT (blue sunstrip)

Cars originally built to GT4 regulations balanced using the BoP in Appendix C. Also in this class are cars not built to the above specifications but also not exceeding 350bhp per tonne based on power at the flywheel and a minimum running weight as measured in Parc Ferme after any official session (with reference to 5.4.6). Cars in this class must run on Goodyear Racing Slick and Wet tyres.

Class Ginetta (orange sunstrip)

Ginetta G55 Supercup cars running to these technical regulations. Cars in this class must run on Goodyear Racing Slick and Wet tyres.

Class Trophy (green sunstrip)

Cars meeting a maximum Power to Weight Ratio of 310bhp/tonne based on power at the flywheel and a minimum running weight as measured in Parc Ferme after any official session PLUS Ginetta GTA cars running to these technical regulations. Cars in this class must run on Goodyear Racing Slick and Wet tyres.

Class Cup (yellow sunstrip)

Cars meeting a maximum Power to Weight Ratio of 280bhp/tonne based on power at the flywheel and a minimum running weight as measured in Parc Ferme after any official session. Cars in this class must run on Dunlop Direzza tyres and Goodyear racing Wet tyres only.
