BSB-British Superbike Championship

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) continues to assert itself as the greatest domestic bike series in the world, and a producer of some of the sport's hottest properties.

The Bennetts BSB bikes average more than 180bhp and are capable of reaching 200mph. If you haven't witnessed the atmosphere first hand, the explosive acceleration off the line or the riders rubbing elbows at incredible speeds - then you really should!

Bennetts BSB has a huge following of fans who follow the championship around the UK, and that is a testament to the teams and riders who push themselves and their bikes to the limit, whilst never forgetting that they're racing to entertain the massive crowds at the circuits.

MotorSport Vision (MSV) acquired the organisational and commercial rights to BSB in 2008, and the series has benefitted massively from the company's expertise and careful judgement. BSB is now a globally recognised brand, broadcast live throughout Europe and Asia, with some of the world's best riders and most prestigious manufacturers. And, above all, it's possibly the most thrilling spectator sport on the planet!

The most dramatic motorsport in the world!

What is a Superbike?

Superbike racing motorcycles are derived from standard production models and differ only slightly from the sports bikes you see on the roads. This makes BSB very appealing to manufacturers, and has led to the well-coined phrase "win on Sunday, sell on Monday". Superbikes are both quick and powerful - 1,000cc with as much as 200bhp.

For a bike to be eligible, the manufacturer must first homologate the model and manufacture the required number of roadgoing machines. In general the bikes must maintain the same profile as their roadgoing counterparts, with the same overall appearance as seen from the front, rear and sides. In addition, the frame cannot be modified.

The following manufacturers all compete in the Bennetts BSB championship:

Honda

Ducati

Kawasaki

Yamaha

BMW

Aprilia

Event Programme

The event programme continues with the opening day of the event returning to two free practice sessions for the Bennetts BSB class. The fastest 12 riders overall will be seeded directly to the Day 2 Qualifying 2 (Q2) session.

The second day of action will begin with a third, shorter Bennetts BSB free practice session in the morning, followed by Qualifying 1 (Q1), where the fastest six riders will progress through to the Q2 session to join the 12 pre-qualifiers from the opening day in the final fight for the pole position for the opening Bennetts BSB race.

At all but three events, Qualifying will see the fast and furious Q1 and Q2 sessions, each of 12 minutes duration, whilst the even more intense one lap Superpole format will also feature at selected events.

Later in the afternoon on Day 2, the first Bennetts BSB race will blast off with the with the opening race of the weekend. The third and final day of competition will feature a morning warm up and the shorter second race followed by the third and final Superbike races of the weekend.

Event Format

The rider with the most points accumulated across the season will be crowned Bennetts BSB Champion.

A Teams Championship will run concurrently with the same principle of an increasing points value as the championship comes to a climax.
