La Pommeraye

In 1964, the first hill race of the Pommeraye was born. This is possible thanks to the momentum of Paul Mounier, founding president of the Anjou Stable. He is assisted by key members of the local holiday committee, supported by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO). This first event was a triumph: a large and high quality participation, welcomed by an enthusiastic audience. This was the beginning of a long story. The driver Jean-Yves Vincent on AC Cobra was the first winner, covering the 1,600 meters in 57 seconds.

In 1967, motor racing was enriched with the addition of motorcycles and sidecars. The change of date of the event, moved from October to June, also marked this period.

In 1970, the climb was improved with the construction of a footbridge and watchtower, replacing the structure of military engineering used for many years. It was also at this time that the first safety rails were installed. Then, the hill race makes its entrance into the French mountain championship. This allows a professionalization of motor racing.

Over the years, the sporting event has become an essential event of the French Mountain Championship, under the aegis of the French Motor Sport Federation (FFSA). The Pommeraye hill race saw various champions compete on its track.
